In this assignment, our class discussed about the functions of different parts of our brain. As a class, we tried to disprove the idea that we only use 20% of our brain, when in fact, we use nearly all of it every time we do something. We also discussed which part of brain in different circumstances like driving and walking up to get water. I found this event to be very significant because I always found interest in the human brain but never had the time to study it. Through this assignment, I was finally motivated to study the brain. I learned that our brain is involved in everything that we do in our life and not just 20% of it. I also learned the vocabulary for the different parts of my brain like the cerebellum and the cerebral cortex.
In this assignment, our class discussed about different personality that humans have. We learned that some psychologist believe that our personality are shaped by our environment. For example, in a funeral we are sad because the environment tells us to be sad. While other scientist believe that we have a certain personality and we choose our environment to cope with our personality. For example, if we feel like we want to be studious, we go to the library rather than party. This assignment was very significant because I got to learn more about why people act the way they do. I learned that people's emotion are usually expressed through their face and it is hard to have their face agree with their emotions when they are lying.
In this assignment, our class discussed about memory. Our class went over the steps to memorizing: encoding, storage, and retrieval. I learned that there is long term memory and short term memory. To store knowledge, we need to use repetition to review the concepts and be store in long term memory. However, sometimes we encounter encoding failure or retrieval failure and this is usually when we either not paying attention to certain details or we failed to retrieve a memory from our storage bank. This assignment was very significant, because I got to hear how other people memorize vocabulary on their test and certain concepts in other classes. I learned different methods to study that will greatly improve my memory.
